This 740 Hours (6 months) Assistant Massage Therapist course was Developed under the supervision on Professor Dr Suryas Bahadur Karki in 1997 AD for students who want to be a qualified Massage Therapist.

As an integral part of Institute of Natural Medicine, Founder/Chairman Professor Doctor Surya Bahadur Karki operated a center of Massage in Nepal in 1984AD to conduct Massage courses to Nepali & foreigner tourism in Thamel. After Operating a massage school Doctor Karki started providing massage training to the students than SPA / Massage began to open commercially as business Thamel, Kathmandu, Pokhara & Overseas today are various across the world. The students who received the training has been registered under various names as SPA , Massage Therapy center , Wellness Studio etc.

Introduction of Assistant Massage Therapist course

This "Assistant Massage Therapist" course is a skill-based course designed to produce basic level human resources with the knowledge and skills required to operate a massage business (employment and self-employment). After learning the knowledge and skills included in this course through training, the trainees participating in the training will be provided with opportunities for self-employment and paid employment in the related business.

The goal is to produce human resources with skills and knowledge related to assistant massage therapy techniques who can provide technical services to the Nepali community as entrepreneurs, self-employed or salaried employees.

Objectives

  • Upon completion of this training program, trainees will have accomplished the following objectives:
  • They will be able to treat common ailments using massage techniques.
  • They will provide customer satisfaction by providing massage services.
  • They will improve their livelihood by earning income through massage services.
  • They will be able to develop entrepreneurship and establish entrepreneurial businesses.
  • They will be able to create self-employment and employment through entrepreneurial businesses.
  • They will contribute to reducing unemployment and poverty, at least to some extent.

Course Description

This course provides the necessary skills and knowledge for the assistant massage therapist. The training program based on this course provides ample opportunities for instructors to demonstrate and teach the skills and knowledge included in the course, and for trainees to practice and learn. In this training program, trainees get the opportunity to practice and learn the knowledge and skills included in the course using the necessary tools, equipment, and materials.

After successfully completing this program, trainees will be able to develop entrepreneurship, communicate, and develop professionalism.

Training period

The total duration of the training program based on this curriculum will be 740 hours (three months), of which 420 hours will be provided at the training center and 320 hours through On-The-Job Training (OJT).

Target group

  • Nepali citizens who have passed at least 8th grade.
  • Students over the age of 17 who are interested in this business.
  • Number of trainees: Maximum 12 Students.
  • Training-language: Nepali, English or both.

Trainee attendance

  • 80 percent attendance is required in theoretical classes.
  • 90 percent attendance is required in practical classes.

Focus of this course

  • This course emphasizes skill development. In this course, 80 percent of the time is allocated to skill learning and 20 percent to knowledge learning.
  • Therefore, the emphasis of this course will be on providing or teaching the skills included in the curriculum.

Admission criteria

  • Individuals who have passed grade 8 and are interested in this profession.
  • People who are at least 17 years old.
  • People who have passed the entrance exam conducted.

Follow-up recommendations

  • The first monitoring was 6 months after the training program ended.
  • Second monitoring 6 months after the end of the first monitoring.
  • Monitoring cycle: 1 year after the end of the second-monitoring, every year, for 5 years.

Certification

The relevant training organization will award the "Assistant Massage Therapist" certificate to trainees who successfully complete the training according to this curriculum.

Trainee Evaluation

  • The skills acquired by the trainees will have to be regularly evaluated by the respective trainers.
  • The relevant technical knowledge learned by the trainees will have to be evaluated by the respective instructor through an oral or written examination.
  • Each module will have 3 internal assessments and a final exam (by the relevant institution).
  • The entrance exam will have to be taken by the concerned institution.

Minimum qualification of instructor

  • At least certificate level in the relevant subject.
  • Good communication and training skills.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Received training on training of trainers (TOT).
